With eyes as wise as time, Endre Szasz’s "High Priest" gazes inward, his meditative thoughts known only to himself. A wispy white beard meanders softly down the priest's face and shoulders, the rhythmic patterns of hair imaginatively imitated in the painting's undulating background designs. Atop the priest's head rests a large cap adorned with a brilliant garnet. A favored gem during the European dark ages and medieval times, the legendary garnet is reputed to have been the only source of light on Noah’s ark. How apropos then, that this venerable priest should wear a cherished gemstone of such Biblical distinction.
